Music and words from 16th century Italy

Friday 21 October 2022, 18.30-19.30, St Clement’s Church, Cambridge

I’ll be joining St Radegund’s Voices again for an evening of music and words. This choir specialises in early choral music for women’s voices – and if that sounds like a niche field, think of the huge amount of music written for the choirs of convents across Europe, by composers from Hildegard of Bingen to Vivaldi.

This concert will celebrate the life and works of the legendary Leonora d’Este (1515-1575), daughter of Lucrezia Borgia. A gifted musician, Leonora wrote a series of motets, which we’ll be performing alongside settings of the same texts by some of her male contemporaries.
